Alex Jimenez has joined Bournemouth on loan from AC Milan with an obligation to buy for £16.5 million. The Spanish full-back’s move caps a remarkable journey from Real Madrid’s academy through Serie A to the Premier League.

Alex Jimenez Fulfils Premier League Dream with Bournemouth Move

Alex Jimenez officially joined Bournemouth on Monday 1st September 2025 for an initial season-long loan. The 20-year-old Spanish defender must make 18 Premier League starts to trigger the mandatory £16.5 million purchase clause.

The former Real Madrid academy product expressed his delight after completing the transfer. He described playing in the Premier League as “one of my dreams” during his unveiling interview.

His arrival strengthens Bournemouth’s defensive options following a summer rebuild under Andoni Iraola. He becomes the Cherries’ sixth summer signing alongside Adrien Truffert, Djordje Petrovic, and Bafode Diakite.

Real Madrid waived their €9 million buy-back clause to allow the transfer to proceed. Los Blancos retained future interest whilst enabling Alex Jimenez to continue his development.

Real Madrid Academy Graduate’s European Journey

Alex Jimenez spent a decade at Real Madrid‘s La Fabrica academy from 2012 to 2022. The promising defender progressed through every youth level at the Spanish giants.

He joined AC Milan initially on loan in summer 2023 before completing a permanent €5 million transfer. Alex Jimenez made 34 appearances across all competitions during his Milan career.

The Spanish international represented his country at under-15, under-17, and under-19 levels. Alex Jimenez is set to join Spain’s under-21 squad during the upcoming international break.

His Milan debut came in a Coppa Italia fixture against Cagliari before making his Serie A bow against Empoli. The defender provided two assists whilst establishing himself as a regular starter.

    Disciplinary Issues Create Milan Exit

Alex Jimenez faced disciplinary problems at AC Milan under manager Massimiliano Allegri throughout the season. Reports suggest he was “late to trainings multiple times” and clashed with the coaching staff.

The defender was sent to train with Milan’s Serie D squad during pre-season as punishment. His relationship with Allegri deteriorated significantly, making his departure inevitable.

He missed several first-team training sessions, frustrating Milan’s management. The club welcomed Bournemouth’s approach as an opportunity to resolve their disciplinary headaches.

His potential remains undeniable despite attitude concerns according to Milan supporters. Alex Jimenez requires proper guidance to maximise his considerable talents.

    Bournemouth’s Ambitious Summer Recruitment

Alex Jimenez joins a significant squad overhaul at Vitality Stadium following record transfer activity. Bournemouth generated £215 million from player sales including Dominic Solanke and Milos Kerkez.

The Cherries sold Illia Zabarnyi to Paris Saint-Germain for €65 million whilst Dean Huijsen joined Real Madrid for €35 million. These departures funded extensive squad rebuilding.

He represents excellent value given his age and potential development trajectory. His versatility across defensive positions appeals to Iraola’s tactical flexibility.

President Tiago Pinto praised the signing whilst highlighting his “great promise at AC Milan”. The club believes Alex Jimenez will become “a strong addition to our squad”.

    Tactical Versatility Suits Iraola’s System

Alex Jimenez can operate as right-back, left-back, or right-wing depending on tactical requirements. His attacking instincts provide width whilst maintaining defensive solidity.

The Spanish defender’s pace and crossing ability enhance Bournemouth’s attacking options from wide areas. He thrives in systems encouraging full-backs to join attacking phases.

His Serie A experience includes facing elite forwards including Victor Osimhen and Ciro Immobile. Premier League adaptation should prove straightforward given Alex Jimenez’s European background.

Iraola’s preference for attacking full-backs suits the defender’s natural playing style perfectly. Alex Jimenez enjoys freedom to exploit space in the final third.

Competition for Places at Vitality Stadium

Alex Jimenez faces competition from Julian Araujo and Adam Smith for Bournemouth’s right-back position. However, Smith’s recent injury against Tottenham creates immediate opportunities.

The Spanish defender’s versatility allows rotation across both flanks depending on team selection. He provides cover for multiple positions throughout the campaign.

His youth and energy complement Bournemouth’s blend of experience and potential. The defender’s arrival increases squad depth for European qualification ambitions.

Alex Jimenez must prove his fitness and attitude to earn regular starting opportunities. His disciplinary record at Milan requires significant improvement.

    Spain Under-21 Recognition Continues

Alex Jimenez received his first Spain under-21 call-up for September’s international fixtures. The recognition reflects his consistent performances despite Milan’s disciplinary issues.

His progression through Spanish youth teams demonstrates consistent quality at international level. He represented his country with distinction across multiple age groups.

The under-21 opportunity provides valuable experience ahead of his Premier League debut. Spain’s coaching staff appreciate his attacking qualities from defensive positions.

Alex Jimenez aims to establish himself as Spain’s long-term right-back option. Strong Bournemouth performances could accelerate his international development.

    Premier League Debut Timeline

Alex Jimenez will wait until after the international break to make his Bournemouth debut. His first appearance could come against Brighton on 13th September.

The defender requires time to adapt to English football’s intensity and physicality. He benefits from Iraola’s understanding of Spanish football culture.

His medical examination at Bournemouth’s training ground passed without complications. The club satisfied themselves regarding his fitness levels despite recent training disruptions.

Alex Jimenez expressed eagerness to begin training with his new teammates immediately. His positive attitude impressed club officials during contract negotiations.

    Financial Structure Benefits All Parties

Alex Jimenez costs Bournemouth approximately €2 million for the initial loan fee. The £16.5 million obligation activates if he starts 50% of available Premier League matches.

AC Milan secured a reasonable return on their €5 million investment from 2023. The deal structure protects them if Alex Jimenez exceeds expectations.

Real Madrid maintains monitoring rights whilst benefiting from his continued development. Their decision to waive the buy-back clause demonstrates faith in his potential.

Alex Jimenez receives the Premier League platform he craved for his career progression. The move represents a crucial step towards fulfilling his considerable potential.
